Vancouver is a city like no other, marked by our stunning natural scenery as well as the active lifestyle of our residents. Here, people are known for getting things done and having fun doing them. Locals love Vancouver for its optimal work-life balance, and it turns out that we’re not the only ones who’ve noticed. This year, Vancouver ranked in the top 10 for Kisi’s cities worldwide with the best work-life balance.
Vancouver Ranks Top 10
The Kisi study pulled data from 40 different cities around the world. Rather than ranking based solely on livability, the study rated cities for how they best support the fulfillment of their residents’ lives as a whole. Cities were ranked based on factors including social equality, social services, vacation time, working hours, and maternity/paternity leave, to name a few.
While Helsinki took first place, Vancouver landed only slightly below, scoring 72.55 out of 100 possible points. Vancouver placed tenth overall and was first out of all North American cities!
Vancouverites value the city’s unique blend of urban living and the natural world. The city’s healthy balance between work and outdoor activities–like cycling– is most evident during the summer months, when the city comes alive and post-work hours mean adventure time.
It may be a surprise for visitors, though, that during the cold and wet months, Vancouver’s streets remain busy with people cycling, running, or walking. No matter the season, Vancouverites are committed to building a life outside of office hours. The city supports this balance with activities like Bike to Work Week, a twice-yearly event that promotes ditching transit and cars in favour of cycling.
